What is NID Entrance Exam?

NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) is a national-level entrance exam through which aspirants are shortlisted for admission to UG and PG Design courses offered by the prestigious National Institute of Design (NID) campuses. Candidates need to clear two NID admission tests in order to be eligible for admission to Bachelor of Design (BDes) and Master of Design (MDes) courses offered at its campuses. 

Initially, NID offered Bachelor of Design (BDes), Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD), and Master of Design (MDes) courses at its campuses. However, from 2020 onwards, the few NID campuses (NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Madhya Pradesh NID Haryana, and NID Assam), which offered GDPD courses also started offering BDes degree programs to students based on their performance in the NID Entrance Exam.

 

NID DAT 2022 Mains - Studio Test and Personal Interview

Given the COVID-19 situation, the NID DAT 2022 Mains exam will be held in a HYBRID mode.

  • B.Des program - Studio Test (Mains) will be conducted in offline mode at various test centers across the country. 
  • M.Des - DAT Mains exam for the M.Des program will include a Studio Test and an Interview. The Studio Test will be conducted at NID campuses (offline), while the interview will be conducted online.

Important Instructions for the Studio Test and Online Interview:

  1. It is mandatory for candidates to appear in the Studio Test and ONLINE Personal Interview to be included in the final NID DAT 2022 merit list.
  2. Requests for rescheduling the Studio Test will not be entertained
  3.  The National Institute of Design will issue admit cards separately for the Studio Test and Online Interview.
  4. If the candidate fails to appear in the online interview, admit cards will not be generated for the Studio Test for such candidates.
  5. On the day of the Studio Test, the candidate must bring with them a hard copy of the admit card and a valid photo ID proof.
  6. Simply appearing in DAT Mains doesn't guarantee admission.

 

NID Result 2022

National Institute of Design will announce the results of NID DAT 2022 (prelims) on its official website in the last week of April 2022. The results would be announced for all candidates who have appeared in the entrance exam. NID DAT 2022 scorecard would have to be downloaded online and will be valid for the current admission session only. It will contain details like the sectional and overall scores, and the qualifying status.

Candidates can check the NID DAT result by following the steps below:

  • Visit the official website - admissions.nid.edu
  • Click on the result link
  • Enter email ID and date of birth
  • Click on Submit
  • Download the NID Entrance Exam result

Significance of NID DAT 2022 (prelims) score - The design school will use scores of DAT Prelims to shortlist candidates for the DAT Mains. Also, admit cards for DAT Mains will be issued only to shortlisted candidates. 

Statement of Purpose and Portfolio Review for DAT Mains

  1. Candidates who get shortlisted for DAT Mains will have to upload a Statement of Purpose (SoP) and Portfolio during the given window.
  2. The specific time/window for uploading SoPs and Portfolio will be intimated to the candidate by the National Institute of Design through the registered email ID/ result page.
  3. The candidate has to upload SoPs and Portfolios separately for each discipline they are shortlisted for.
  4. Format of the SoP - The Statement of Purpose should not contain more than 100 words for each question. The SoP should be uploaded as a single file (maximum size - 2 MB).
  5. Format of the Portfolio - The candidate has to upload a digital copy of their Portfolio in a single file (maximum size - 10 MB).

NID DAT 2022 Eligibility Criteria

NID eligibility criteria 2022 for BDes and MDes courses is as mentioned below.

BDes - Candidates should clear Class 12 from any stream (Science, Humanities, Commerce) from a recognised board such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent. Candidates appearing for Class 12 exams in 2022 are also eligible to apply.

MDes - Candidates should complete a bachelor’s degree course from a recognised college/university. Candidates should not be more than 30 years of age as on June 30, 2022.

 

NID Admission Process 2022

NID admissions 2022 is a two-tier process. To secure admission to BDes and MDes courses offered at NID campuses, candidates need to appear for NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains). The objective of conducting both the tests is to assess knowledge, skills as well as behavioural abilities of candidates. Aspirants can go through the steps included as part of NID admission process 2022 below:

Step 1: Fill NID DAT Application Form

Candidates need to go through the eligibility criteria for NID admissions to the course in which they want to apply. After doing this, aspirants need to fill their NID DAT 2022 application form on the official website of National Institute of Design. Along with the application form, candidates need to upload their supporting documents, signature and photograph. After filling all the details in NID registration form, aspirants need to pay the application fee either online (by Credit/ Debit Card) or offline (by Demand Draft to be drawn in favour of "All India Management Association" and should be payable at New Delhi). 

Step 2: Download NID DAT Admit Card

The call letter/admit card for NID Entrance Exam is made available for download on the official website of the exam. Aspirants who do not receive the admit card for the entrance test need to contact NID Admission Cell immediately. 

Step 3: Appear for NID DAT (Prelims)

The first stage of NID admissions, NID DAT (Prelims) is a written test, which comprises objective as well as subjective questions. The entrance exam conducted by NID is of three hours duration. Check complete NID DAT exam pattern.

Step 4: Check NID DAT Prelims Result

Candidates can check their result for NID entrance exam on the official website of the exam by providing details such as their email address, date of birth, roll number/application number. 

Step 5: Download NID DAT Mains Admit Card

Candidates who clear NID DAT Prelims exam are then issued an admit card for NID DAT Mains. Aspirants can download NID DAT Mains admit card from the official website of National Institute of Design by entering their login details.

Step 6: Appear for NID DAT Mains 

Candidates who make it in the cut-off list for NID DAT (Prelims) are then eligible to appear for NID DAT (Mains), wherein authorities conduct a studio test and interview round. In the studio test for NID admissions, aspirants are given hands-on practical assignments, which they need to complete within the stipulated time.

Step 7: Check NID Final Result

Based on a candidate's performance in NID DAT (Prelims) and NID DAT (Mains), the final merit list for NID admissions is prepared. Aspirants can check the merit list for NID admissions on the official website of the exam.
